Join us Wednesday for Guitarist / Vocalist Dan Nelson aka “Lone Wolf” at Stirling Books & Brew!
Growing up, music was always on Dan Nelson’s radio. More often than not, if it wasn’t Elvis, it was whatever was on New York’s AM radio. Like most 10 year old boys from Staten Island, New York, he loved KISS. However, when he turned 14, his world would forever change when he was given the Beatles’ “Red” and “Blue” albums.
Their feel-good, innovative music, which opened the musical doors for so many other artists, led Nelson to playing guitar and joining his first band two years later. While that first musical group didn’t even make it out of the drummer’s basement, Nelson continued working on his craft as often as he could. The next decade and a half would bring self-penned songs and time spent playing out with different bands for fun while working full time in the corporate world.
Putting his love of music and performing on the back burner wasn’t something he planned to do. However, one wife, three children, a new employer and a relocation to the Midwest made it necessary. Nelson jokes that while he had been getting the itch to play out again live, it wasn’t until his wife “kicked him out of the house” and told him to start doing what he loved again that he started to get serious. Today, thriving from music’s ability to express himself creatively and strong crowd reactions, Nelson plays out both as a solo artist and as a member of The New Originals. Performing both acoustic and electric sets, his repertoire, which contains a wide-variety of songs ranging from his personal influences to modern day artists, is not to be missed.
